History:

Alfred Horie Construction has been a company that follows a successful recipe of integrity and dependability since 1893. The company was founded as a partnership between Mr. Edward G. Baynes (1870-1956) and Mr. Will Horie (1858-1940). One of their first projects was the construction of the Entrance Island Lighthouse in Nanaimo. A 3 month project valued at $2,308 that paid their carpenters 30 cents an hour for a 9 hour workday. In 1936 the partnership changed to Baynes and Horie Ltd, headed by the founding partner’s sons, and in 1940 with Mr. Horie taking over the partnership, the company changed to Alfred Horie Construction Co. Ltd.
